Spa Etiquette
The word etiquette as defined in Webster's Dictionary means: "Conventional code of social behavior", but what is the conventional code of spa behavior? And how does one learn this code of behavior if you are a first time spa goer at a spa?

Here are some pointers for the spa guest:
As a spa guest you are expected to:
  • Allow the therapist to perform a service as reserved and timed.
  • Give the therapist feedback as to your comfort and special troubled areas.
  • Relax … that's generally why you are in the spa.
  • Enjoy, benefit and allow others to "do for you".
  • Know that you are in a professional spa therapy operations and do not expect anything other than therapeutic or spa services.
  • Know that you may be silent or quietly talkative.
  • Share public space respectfully with other spa goers.
  • Relax, yet respect that the room must be prepared and used for the next client; so know that you must vacate treatment room upon completion of service within a reasonable amount of time.
  • Give honest feedback to the therapist, owner, receptionist, etc., as operation personnel cares to know if your spa experiences was as expected.
What client behavior would be considered bad manners?
  • Lewd behavior
  • Inebriated
  • Demeaning and abusive behavior toward receptionists or therapists.
  • Guest insisting upon services without an appointment when spa is fully booked.
Such behavior does not conform to spa etiquette.

Booking Spa Appointments At Bliss Body Spa, our normal business hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 9am to 6pm. We are available outside of these hours by appointment only. We are busiest on the weekends and afternoons, so book as far in advance as possible in order to ensure getting the particular time, day, and therapist you want. It's easiest to accommodate you during off-peak hours, which are often in the mornings and mid-week. If you will be attending Bliss Body Spa with a gift certificate, please mention it to the receptionist when booking so we can make the appropriate accommodations.

Therapists If you have enjoyed the services of a particular therapist on a prior visit, please request that person. Do realize that your first choice may not always be available.

Punctuality Arrive on time or early, preferably 10 minutes. If you are late, your treatment time will need to be shortened since the treatment room and therapist are generally booked after your session. After a treatment, it's customary to vacate the room within five or ten minutes. However, you are free to spend additional time unwinding in the garden.

Arrival If this is your first visit - let the receptionist know when you arrive. We are very accustomed to first-time guests and will provide a more detailed reception. If you are receiving a massage or facial we will ask you to complete a questionnaire so that we have your contact information and so that your therapist will have a better understanding of your concerns and focus.

Exploring the Facility On arrival at Bliss Body Spa, ask for a tour prior to your treatment. The tour will acquaint you with your surroundings so that you can feel completely comfortable to maximize our spa enjoyment

Cancellations If you must cancel an appointment, give us as much advance notice as possible. Approximately 24 hours' notice is the minimum to cancel a single service, and at least a 48 hour notification is required for a package of services or a 50% fee will be charged. No shows will be charged the full service price. Scheduling an appointment is acceptance of our policies.

Attire Most people arrive in very casual attire-something you can easily slip off. Some treatments can be done while you're fully clothed, but others (such as massage) are best received in the nude. Robes are given for transition between treatments for multiple services packages.

Jewelry If possible, leave your jewelry at home as you will not need it for your visit. If you choose instead to take them with you to your treatment, be mindful of not leaving them behind.

Communicating your Preferences All aspects of treatment can usually be modified to your taste: amount of light, kind (or absence) of music, room temperature, and whether or not you choose to have a conversation or enjoy the treatment in silence. If you want the therapist to go deeper or be gentler, let him or her know. Also, feel free to ask questions. Your therapist will appreciate knowing your thoughts and clarifying any issues you may have. Our job is to pamper you. We need you to let us know how we can best do that. Your therapist is trained in a variety of techniques in order to give you the best possible service. In most cases their knowledge will guide them to providing that service but should you feel uncomfortable in any way, please let your therapist know. If your therapist does not address your concerns, please ask to speak to a supervisor.

Medical Conditions If you have any type of medical condition - be sure to mention it when you book an appointment. Certain treatments may not be advisable for you. Also, before your treatment begins, let your therapist or aesthetician know of any medical concerns. Tell the technician if you're wearing contact lenses before you have a facial.

Nudity Issues It is never required that you are unclothed in front of anyone. All changing takes place in the treatment rooms while the therapist waits outside. Our therapists are well trained in the "art of draping" which means that they leave the treatment room while you get under the sheet on the massage table, and they keep you covered at all times except for the area of the body they are massaging. They also leave the treatment room before you get up from the table.

Shaving If you must shave, do so at least two hours before your scheduled appointment, particularly if you're a man receiving a facial or a woman receiving any kind of scheduled bodywork.

Sun Going Try to avoid the sun on the day of treatment and, in some cases, the day after.

Eating and Drinking Try not to eat for at least an hour before a treatment, and avoid the consumption of alcohol on the day of a treatment. Drink plenty of water before and afterward.

Gratuities Gratuities are not included in the price of the service but gladly accepted. Between 15 and 20 percent for each person who gave you a service is customary, but you may of course leave more or less, depending on the quality of the service. Tips can be added to a credit card, check, or paid in cash.

Cell Phones The day spa environment is a tranquil and stress-reducing experience, it's best to leave cell phones and pagers at home or turn them off before entering Bliss Body Spa.

Children Many day spas have age restrictions. Children are generally not allowed so that the day spa ambiance remains as relaxing as possible. Teens may be accommodated for certain services or at certain times.

Socializing When in the relaxation room and elsewhere in the day spa, be mindful of others. Keep conversations at a low volume.

Must I arrive without makeup? If you prefer to wear makeup, we recommend a soft application. A full-face makeup will take extra time to remove limiting the focus on your facial service.
